After installing my step bars, I decided to wire up some running board lights that operate when the doors are open or unlocked i. Thanks to Borderbrat for some reference material in this thread: We’ll see how they hold up, but regardless, this approach is a good reference for just about anything, just be sure to use a relay if you use anything other than low-current LEDs. Before you begin, disconnect the battery. I wanted the lights to turn on and off with the dome light i. As previously mentioned, I chose a low-current LED solution, so I can directly power them off the stock power wire and ground wire According to the stock wiring diagrams available elsewhere on TW and the Haynes manual, the power wire is a constantly powered 7. The easiest place to locate them is the driver’s side pillar. I inserted an inline 1A fuse to isolate the LEDs from the stock wiring.
Go to Radio Shack and get some female wire tap-ins and their male counterparts. Tap into the rear’s left and right speakers and connect to a line-level converter. Connect the RCA from the converter to your amp.

These include two tweeters near the front corner of the front doors. The four main speakers are located in the doors. Without Speakers located in the rear dash, it is a little tougher to install stereo components that others have explained.
I have found a website which requires a free registration, and is very helpful. It offers the schematics and wiring diagrams of every inch of the Optima. It is the shop companion of Kia mechanics. I will outline how to access and navigate this site at the bottom.
Speaker Connections for proper impedance match A note about amplifiers: You should always use the recommended load for your amplifier. However, if you must use a load other than the recommended load, here is a short guide. Most solid-state amplifiers would rather look at an open circuit no speaker at all than a load. Therefore, you can usually use a load that is higher than the recommended load.

If you dont have it then you should acquire it from your car manufacturers customer service phone number, your local dealer or the internet. Getting them online can be a bit unreliable and expensive. If you dont have the code and you unplug your stereo it will not allow you to listen to it as it will assume it’s been stolen.
Don’t guess the code as you usually only get a few attempts before it will permanently lock it’self! Add Tip Ask Question Step 2: Wiring Plug Remove your head unit. At the back of your stereo there is most likely one big plug which incorporates all of the inputs and outputs to and from your head unit. Mount Your Converter Actually, don’t mount it yet.
Find where you are going to mount it and work out if you need to add any wire to your converter to get it to reach comfortably to where your head unit cables are. Take into account that your head unit will need space behind it to fit back into the dash properly so don’t count on splicing into the cables right at the plug with the converter right behind the head unit, it may be better to mount it somewhere else and lengthen the wire to reach.
January 24, We are always preaching the more subs the better in a home theater system particularly two to four for a variety of reasons such as; smoother bass response across a wider listening area and increased dynamic range. So now that you’ve decided to purchase two or four subs, its time to show you how to connect them up properly to ensure you achieve the maximum benefits of a multi sub system.
This article has been recently updated to incorporate two YouTube video discussions – 1. How to Connect Multi-Sub. Why Have Multiple Subwoofers? The following is the most basic system. It involves a head unit HU and 2 pairs of speakers which are driven by the head unit’s internal amplifier. You can see that the battery terminal of the HU is connected to a constant source of power the battery with an inline fuse. The accessory wire for the HU is connected to a power source which only has power when the ignition switch is in the ‘on’ or ‘acc’ positions.
The battery and accessory connections will not be shown in the following diagrams but will be the same for all of the systems. The lines point to the speakers but the exact connection isn’t shown. The colored speaker wires from the HU are going to be connected to the positive speaker terminal of the speaker. The black or darker speaker wire will be connected to the negative speaker terminal.
Of course, this is just a generic type of diagram and you should consult the wiring diagram which was supplied with the HU. Using the HU’s internal amplifier and an external amplifier: In this diagram, you see that the front speakers are being driven from the HU’s internal amplifier and a pair of rear speakers are being powered by an external amplifier. This type of system has very little chance of sounding good.
If the amplifier is being used because more volume is desired and the front and rear speakers are roughly equivalent in efficiency then the front speaker’s amplifier will probably be driven into clipping well before the external amplifier reaches clipping.

Subwoofer Wiring Diagrams One of the most common questions in the car audio field is usually “How do I wire up my subwoofers to my amplifier?” This is not easy to explain because there are so many options and variables to consider when making the purchase and wiring up your sound system.
How Hide TV Cables Audiophiles are always looking for new ways to get the most out of their audio equipment. Over the years people have found creative ways for enhancing sound quality beyond just buying more expensive speakers. There are two techniques in particular that we will talk about here: While neither of these techniques are strictly necessary, they can potentially give you better sound. Speakers are usually a combination of two specific speakers: Both Bi-Wiring and Bi-Amping try to improve sound quality by isolating these components from one another.
Bi-Wiring Bi-wiring is a way of connecting a speaker to an audio amplifier. Normally only one cable connects the speaker to the amplifier. In bi-wiring, each loudspeaker uses two cables one for the tweeter and one for the bass in the speaker which are then connected to the same amplifier. Since both sets of cables connect to the same ports on the amplifier, many people argue that there is no benefit to this kind of setup and that it is a waste of money.
Watching a movie on a properly set up surround sound system, or listening to your music through a new set of speakers can be an amazing experience. But, the key to a great home theater isn’t just spending a lot of money. Setting up the system correctly is just as important as what you buy. This guide, very simply, walks through the basics of speaker placement, how to hook everything up, and how to change a few settings to really make your system shine.
Throughout this article are links to other articles that go into more depth on each topic.

My Jeeps I recently installed 2 kicker comp 10″ in my 98 jeep cherokee. I purchased an 8 guage wiring kit along with my subs. It came with power wire, ground, speaker wire, fuse, and remote wire. You connect the power wire to the positive of the battery and then make sure your fuse is within 18inches of the battery. Then i ran the power wire through the firewall and down the driver side floor panel to the rear of my car. If you have a upgraded head-unit with rca pre-amp outputs you just connect your RCA’s and follow the same path as your wiring.
Theres a blue wire in your wiring harness behind the head-unit. Once you have you RCA’s, Power wire, and Remote wire ran all the way to the back you need to work on the ground. The ground needs to be within 18″ from the amp recommended. Now your ready to hook up your amp.
Jul 19, Advertisement – Continue Reading Below I love my new Ford Mustang coupe, but stock radio’s flat, bass-less sound and distortion at high volumes left the audio enthusiast in me wanting more. Sure, I could have opted for the dealer upgrade when I bought the vehicle, but I wanted to choose my own components instead of leaving the decision up to Ford. I wanted my dashboard to look like a console from the Starship Enterprise.
